How do your students do in the Match?
Quite well, but is it any surprise that the good students get the best spots, while anyone who under-performs has to scramble over what's left?
Remember that a successful match is the one you want. More students want to enter residencies at our own school than we can keep.
How many get their first choice? - Probably most, but nobody knows. See Deal or No Deal, below.
| The NRMP, which manages the residency matching program, no longer gives medical schools data concerning how many of their students got their first, second, third, etc., choice of residencies. If someone brags about how many of their seniors got their first choice, best keep a hand on your billfold. When we were told, roughly two-thirds of our seniors routinely got their top choice, and ninety percent got one of their top three. Some of the others aimed too high at first, but scrambled into good programs. Our top students compete successfully with the best for the most coveted spots in the country. Waiting and winning are part of the process. |  |

| How many of your graduates stay in state? - About half. Some see leaving Louisiana as desirable. We don't. We want our good students here. The fact is that about half stay in Louisiana. The rest scatter in all directions, but tend to stay in the Southeast. |
